Encourage your community to Go Green with your library this Libraries Week!

This Libraries Week we are encouraging libraries to plan events and activities to showcase all of the ways to go green this year.

We have 7 daily themes across Green Libraries Week which you can use to shape your events and activities on whichever day suits. In no particular order, they are:

  • Hands-on events and activities
  • Book selections or displays
  • Library & classroom-based learning activities
  • Community gardening projects
  • Community recycling projects
  • Opportunities to learn about recycling
  • Partnership events with local partners

Think about events and activities that showcase how your library is:

  • Motivating users to learn new sustainability skills
  • Facilitating flexible learning opportunities and self-directed learning towards the climate agenda
  • Supporting users to learn about being more conscious about sustainability
  • Empowering people to learn about what more they can do for the environment
  • Providing access to recycling tips and support
  • Enabling users to learn a new gardening skill
  • Helping people to find and use information to be engaged with their community’s green activities
  • Creating opportunities for users to learn about the various forms of literature around the climate

This might include:

  • Providing digital access and support service
  • Providing education and resources on climate change
  • Leading litter campaigns or guerrilla gardening in your area
  • Facilitating walking tours
  • Working with local authors or illustrators
  • Collaborations with artists and other cultural initiatives in your community
  • Partnering with local schools and businesses
  • Connecting with your local food bank
  • Plus many more!
